Zoom Around The World In A Season With Manitoba Theatre for
Young People!
Imagine being inside a butterfly's world. Sun glints on your face, you hear the wings beat
in fact you experience the entire cycle of metamorphosis. Two actors and dancers inside a virtual landscape interact with spectators who are enfolded by images which react to their gestures and movements through sensors and fiber optic imagery. According to the UK's, The Guardian, Butterflies is "A new experience in participatory theatre. Inclusive and entertaining.."
Audience members of the Manitoba Theatre for Young People can look forward to a
season of enchanting theatre from around the world. From the moment you step into the magical Italian garden in Butterflies until you gasp in wonder at the comic genius of Jamie Adkins' Circus INcognitus MTYP promises to amaze.
There will be the holiday hijinks of the Mouse and the Boy in MTYP's own adaptation of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, a boisterous re-telling of Jason and the Argonauts from Scotland's Visible Fictions - two actors, 65 minutes, one golden fleece - and the spectacular visuals and foot-stomping percussion in the stunning West African legend of an ancient tree and the boy raised by a village in Baobab.
"Inventiveness and imagination are at the heart of our 2010-2011 season" says
MTYP Artistic Director Leslee Silverman. "In our continuing quest to introduce
children to the best of international theatre and home-grown work, we've invited
some of the most innovative artists from across the globe to share the stage with MTYP originals. Our audiences will truly be at 'play' and their powers of imagination stimulated with each and every work in the season."
