"So how does it feel to be an empty-nester?" This is a question that I am getting used to hearing over and over. It is surreal! Its only been a month since both my sons left Winnipeg to live and go to school in other cities;
one in Melbourne, Australia and the other in Vancouver. It is a new concept to have two bedrooms and one bathroom that stay perfectly neat and clean. That's the part I like very much. Our home is very quiet and my fridge and pantry
no longer are filled to the maximum. It takes some practice to shop and cook for two instead of four but that is also kind of nice. I am comforted in the knowledge that they are both doing exactly what they have dreamed of doing and as a parent that is what we wish for our children.
I do miss the sounds of my boys laughing, joking and debating about movies and music. I have my sad moments when I am alone and I face the reality of the situation. It is likely that other than when they come to visit, it is likely they will never live with us again, My husband looked at me the other day and asked "where did 26 years go?" It is our parents that tell us that the older you get, the faster the time flies by. I get it now.
This issue offers our annual Focus on Education. We are the only publication that compiles information about the many schools from nursery to Senior 4. As you look through the pages of this issue you learn about the many independent
schools that our city has. Independent schools over smaller classrooms, great teachers and speciality programs. What ever you are looking for, you can find here. Religion based, Montessori, University style, single gender etc.
February offers tons of family events too! Check out our family fun calendar for many great ideas.
It's I love to Read Month, so why not read a book together as a family this month. Pick a book and take turns reading together!
Have a Fantastic February!
