Happy 2010! Happy I Love to Read Month!
This year promises to be an exciting one for Winnipeg Parent as we attempt to reach even more families, caregivers and educators through our 8 issues, on our website, and at our annual Family Fun and Learning Fair. Winnipeg Parent reaches approximately 55,000 readers in Winnipeg and its surrounding communities. We would like to make Winnipeg Parent available in more rural areas throughout the province but the challenge is how to do this in the most effective and efficient way.
How can we help you in the challenges of parenting and family life? We have received much feedback on what topics you would like to see us cover over the next year. We hope to offer more information on raising teens, single parenting, frugal living, special needs issues, and how to improve your parenting skills. As well, we will offer more contests and recipes. We take your feedback seriously and want to know what you would like to see in upcoming issues of Winnipeg Parent. You can email us anytime with comments and suggestions.
Our February issue focuses on the many educational opportunities available for preschoolers through adults. This is our largest Focus on Education section ever! With the Schools of Choice program growing, public schools are offering more specialized curriculums to bring students to schools from outside the immediate community. This is a win-win situation for students looking for programs in a language, or area of specialty such as technology, and for the school with increased enrolment. Take the time to read through the descriptions of each program and call for open house dates and a tour. Your child's success in education is the foundation upon which their future is built! Getting involved and making the right choice takes research and time, but this investment will be well worth it! We are our children's biggest advocates and our responsibility is to make sure they are getting the best education right birth as our children's first teachers, to preschool and beyond.
February is also a great month for Family Fun in our city. You can attend Olympic Events River Trail activities every weekend at the Forks, enjoy Festival du Voyageur fun in St. Boniface, attend the Winnipeg Baby and Kids Show at the Convention Centre and Disney on Ice at the Arena. Oryou could just get outside for winter walk, a day of skating and tobogganing and build a snowman or snowfort in the yard. This is a Winnipeg Winter at its best! Get outside and celebrate our blue sky, bright sunshine, white snow and fresh air as a family.
