ArtsJunktion Opens at 312 B William Avenue in Winnipeg
Imagine a warehouse art supply FREE store where junk becomes treasure for all -anyone who is creative, makes art, inspires others, or works with children and youth. This is where real recycling happens over and over, a depot where landfill-bound leftovers are dropped off, sorted, shelved for display by dedicated volunteers, and then browsed, discovered, taken away to be used again! The depot space is bright and cheery, not junky or dingy - these organizers really care and have worked very hard for three years to make this new space a reality.
Begun by a core group, ArtsJunktion mb has grown from isolated promotional events in restaurants, Manitoba Children's Museum, teacher conferences and classrooms, to a temporary space in an unused classroom, to achieving Charitable Tax Status, to brokering a deal for warehouse space at 312 William Avenue in the Exchange.
This is a success story without government aid - an honest grassroots movement to make free art materials available to inner city, indeed all Manitoban, artists and children by requesting businesses, manufacturers, the public, to donate excess material so that it can be recycled into creative use.
Since November of 2009, ArtsJunktion mb.Inc has been open Mondays, noon to 8:00 pm and Saturdays, 10:00 to 2:00 and has now expanded their hours to include Thursdays from 1:00 to 5:00.
