Holiday Help for Flying Families

(NC) Are you flying with what feels like a whole planeload of family members this season? There are some things you can do to make it easier.

Nearly six million people are expected to board planes in Canada in December alone. The first step to beating the crowds is to check the security-screening wait times. The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority posts up-to-the-minute wait times for many major airports on its website (catsa-acsta.gc.ca) and on its free mobile app.

Even better - be in the know before you go. Use their site and app to brush up on the packing rules - for example, in your carry-on luggage, liquids must be in containers of 100 millilitres or less, and some powders are limited to 350 millilitres. Bringing baby onboard? There are exceptions to the liquids limit for baby food and drinks required for children up to 24 months old.

One last tip - if you're travelling with gifts, leave them unwrapped in case screening officers need to take a peek. Some airports offer gift-wrapping services after security, with proceeds going to charity.
