Munsch Is Fun For The Whole Family That Everyone Can Afford!
For over twenty years, Prairie Theatre Exchange has been bringing the stories of Robert Munsch to life every December for Manitoba families. For many people, the experience of seeing the Munsch show is a holiday tradition. And with such a long history of producing these shows, there is now a second generation of children coming to the show with parents who remember fondly attending PTE's holiday shows when they were young, a couple of decades ago.
"I love working on these shows," says playwright Debbie Patterson, who has written four other adaptations of Munsch stories for PTE. "It feels a little like being one of Santa's elves, working away in my workshop creating something magical to delight children every holiday season."
Director Arne MacPherson, who has directed these productions for the last seven years concurs: "This is my favourite job all year! Rehearsals are a riot, the actors have so much fun that their joy just spills out into the audience."
For this year's show, The Three Munschketeers, (which plays from December 21 to January 5 at PTE's Portage Place location), kids get to hang out with Athos, Porthos and Aramis as they hide from their enemies in an abandoned building. Fun loving (but lazy) Porthos and proud and fiery Aramis keep getting on each others nerves and Athos has to keep the peace. Using the stories of Robert Munsch, they share their dreams of the good life and make plans for their glorious future. Featuring some swashbuckling antics and a silly song or two, The Three Munschketeers promises to be a treat for young and old.
The show features a mix of old favourites: We Share Everything, Where is Gah-Ning? and Wait and See, as well as newer stories: Just One Goal! and Moose! And of course there's always some fun audience participation to get everyone involved. There are even three early evening shows where you can wear your pajamas.
Tickets for The Three Munscheteers are available now. Individual tickets are priced at $10 (rush) and $12 (assigned) with family four packs starting at $32. Shows are at 11 am, 1 pm, 3 pm and 7 pm (visit http://www.pte.mb.ca for the complete schedule.) To purchase tickets, call 942-5483 or visit PTE online.
