The craziest month of the year is upon us! Our schedules fill up with parties, school concerts, office events, shopping, cooking, baking and celebrating. It is a month of gladness for the fortunate and a month of sadness for the less fortunate. Have you considered putting more meaning into the holiday season? Have you thought about volunteering as a family at your local food back, homeless shelter, church or local charity? There are many volunteer opportunities out there and doing something good for others and family togetherness should be the basis of the holiday season.
It is a bittersweet time for my husband Neil and I. Last January, my eldest son moved to Australia to go to school and has completed his first year of four. He is now back home for "summer vacation"...Yes, it's summer Down Under so he came back to enjoy Winterpeg for a few weeks of family time. It is so wonderful to have him home and our house will be filled with family fun,noise and happiness. But in late December my younger son heads to Vancouver for school and the other one returns to Melbourne in January.
Alas, we will then be empty nesters. It is wonderful when our children head off to move forward with their lives and are doing what they want to, but for parents it is an emotional time. Our home will be SO quiet!Except on nights that the Jets are playing on TV...Thank goodness for the return of the Winnipeg Jets and NFL Football! It will keep us busy and of course the BIGGEST and noisiest kid still lives here (my husband) and he is a passionate Jets and NFL football fan so that's a great distraction.
We plan to enjoy our month of all being together as a family making some wonderful memories. It will be a precious and special time. If I have a message to send to you this holiday season it would be to cherish your time together as a family. Parenting is the toughest job in the world and sometimes you wonder if you can handle the ups and downs...but your kids will not be with you forever so...make the time you have with them count and enjoy every minute!
